XBox Kinect: 10 Million Units Sold and Set Word Record

XBox Kinect 10 Million Sold Guinness World Records Gamer’s EditionFor me the XBox Kinect is one of the hotest gadgets available in the gaming market today and it seems that others tend to agree with me.

Microsoft has announced that their XBox Kinect system has officially hit the 10 million units sold mark and that is in only a few months making it the fastest selling gadget on earth. Rightfully so, the Kinect has earned its place in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition as the fastest selling consumer electronics device.

“The sales figures here speak for themselves,” said Gaz Deaves, Gaming Editor for Guinness World Records. “According to independent research, no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, which is an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.”

The Kinect has sold on average 133 333 units daily in its first 2 months of launch totaling more than 8 million units over the period.

Windows Phone 7 Kinect Integration

Microsoft has one of the hotest gadgets available on the market today, the Xbox 360 Kinect, allowing you to use your body as the controller, but it seems they are not willing to let it at that.

Microsoft recently launched Windows Phone 7, a new mobile operating system that are set to compete head on with the likes of Android and Apple iOS, but since its release uptake of Windows Phone 7 has been very stale.

Microsoft is however hard at work trying to integrate its Windows Phone 7 operating system into as many other systems as possible, and one such integration it that of their very own Xbox 360 Kinect. You are probably asking now, how on earth will you integrate Windows Phone 7 with Xbox Kinect? Have a look at this video.

So what do you think? Will this change your mind on Windows Phone 7? Would be cool to add to the Kinect gaming experience by controlling additional features via your Windows Phone 7 device.

Facebook Twitter Xbox LIVE South AfricaBack in 2009 Microsoft released an update to XBOX 360 consoled that allowed gamers to browse Facebook and tweet straight from their consoles through Xbox LIVE.

A few years down the line and us South Africans finally got Xbox LIVE in our own country, but despite all the hype it was not welcomed with warm feelings as most of the services and feature we got used to when using international accounts was now gone. Some of these features included the ability to browse Facebook and Twitter from your console.

Tweet from your Xbox 360

A while back Microsoft announced that they will be rolling in a update on the XBox 360 console to enable users to Twitter, Facebook and Last.FM from the comfort of their couch on a big screen TV.

So last night I decided that its time to test out this functionality. Using the applications is really straight forward, just log in with your credentials and away you go.

The Twitter interface looks really sleek and nice, but just don’t try to do a status update with your remote control. Writing the update is really time consuming as you need to move around the on-screen keyboard with your remote control to find the correct letters, not worry, all I did to avoid this was pop in a usb keyboard and all was well again.

All the the Xbox 360 now lacks is a browser, would be cool to be able to open up the links on tweets and view them. Me hold thumbs that they do not implement IE on the Xbox 360.

Need For Speed: Shift

The Need For Speed franchise has always been a hit amongst gamers, that was until the last one or two releases.

Games such as Grid and Forza set new standards in the racing market, and Need For Speed just kept with their arcade style driving losing a few gamers that hindered for that real driving experience.

The latest edition to the Need For Speed franchise is Shift and it is up for some serious competition later this year from the likes of Forza Motorsport 3, but if the trailer bellow is what we can go by I’m sure they will start regain the gamers they lost.

Imagine a racing game built by racers for racers and you’ll have a good idea of what to expect with Need for Speed SHIFT. It’ll introduce gamers into a level of realism never before seen in a Need for Speed title, offering an incredible authentic and immersive driving experience. Need for Speed SHIFT has been designed to replicate the true feeling of racing high-end performance cars and features a stunningly realistic first-person cockpit viewpoint and an all-new crash engine which offers an unrivaled sensation of racing at high speed.

The game is being developed using a collaborative model with some of the best racing game talent from around the world. Some key names behind the game are Michael Mann (executive producer at Black Box), Patrick Soderlund (senior vp of EA Games) and Slightly Mad Studios in London. SMS, or to give them their former name, Blimey, should be well-known to the racing crowd as the developers behind such classic racing games as GT Legends and GTR 2.

Need For Speed: Shift will be available later this year. It will be available on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and PSP.
