Google Chrome version 6 here

Google Chrome version 6Being a web developer I work with different kinds of browsers all the time, and since Google Chrome was released there was no turning back to my previous favourite Firefox. Two years in and Google Chrome still does not disappoint.

Since Google Chrome’s first beta release two years back the browser has come a long way, holding more than 7.5% of the world browser market share. This may not sound like a lot, but if you compare it to browsers like Opera that has been in the market for more than than 10 years and only still hold 2.4%, its clear that Google Chrome is catching up on competitors.

Google Chrome version 6 marks the second anniversary of the Web Browser that is built around speed and simplicity. The new version 6 or Chrome features a built in flash plugin, minor modification to the look, form autofill, and extension and autofill syncronization across computers.

In addition, Google Chrome also kept its support for HTML 5 top notch, making it even more appealing as a browser of choice while keeping it fast, simple and secure.

First Android Trojan Runs Amok

Android SMS Trojan Runs AmokWith the large uptake of the Android operating system by manufacturers and users alike, it was bound to happen some time.

The first Android trojan has started running amok on large numbers of phones running the popular Operating System by Google. The trojan called Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a is disguised as a harmless media player application.

Once the trojan has been installed on your Android phone it actually goes about SMSing premium subscription numbers automatically. The trojan was apparently developed by these premium subscribers themselves and could leave a big dent in your pocket when your cellphone account arrives at the end of the month.

Good news is the that it only seems to have affected users from Russia, but just to make sure, there is a way to keep your phone safe from the trojan, if you go to Settings -> Applications just uncheck Allow Unknown Source and you should be safe.

Know when someone hacks your Facebook account

Get notified when someone hacks your Facebook accountFacebook the Social Networking giant has released a set of tools to help users in knowing when someone logs into their accounts from unknown computers.

In a blog post on the official Facebook blog, software engineer Lev Popov, introduced the new features and emphasized that Facebook is constantly working on new ways to protect their users from scams and keeping their information and accounts secure.

This is kind of ironic seeing as Facebook has been in the press repeatedly in the past due to their privacy policies.

Facebook has introduced two new features that will help protect users’ accounts, the first being Login Notifications and the other Blocking Suspicious Logins, this just a few weeks after they introduced their new OpenGraph API and Social Tools.

The Login Notifications is just what is says, users can set up their accounts so that they receive an Email or SMS message when someone logs into their account from an unknown computer. You can specify multiple computers you normally work on from your accounts settings page and enable to either receive notifications by Email or both SMS and Email when your account is being accessed by a computer not on your list.

As an extra measure of security Facebook will also monitor your account for suspicious activity and block logins if they think someone is trying to gain unauthorized access to your account. Measures taken to unblock your account will include asking you personal questions from your data or asking you to identify someone in a picture next to you.

Facebook has designed the questions to be easy to you and hard for the person trying to gain access to your account.

I really like the way Facebook has approached this and glad there is now some form of extra security available to users, you’d be surprise how many Facebook users’ password is something like their birth date or just simply 123456.
