City Of Cape Town Online Vehicle Registration Renewal

City Of Cape Town Online Vehicle Licence Registration RenewalA few weeks back the City of Cape announced their new online vehicle registration website which enable motor vehicle owners to renew their registrations online without the need of going to their local traffic department and filling out forms. Initially when I heard about the new online system my thoughts was another failed online system by the government.

So last week the need arised for me to renew my vehicle licence, not having received my registration reminder form in the post, my expectations was not much, but because I was pushed for time I had to choice but to test out the new online system.

Registration was simple, all I had to do was head over to the City of Cape Town motor vehicle registration and licensing website and fill out a simple online form asking for my ID number, email and vehicle registration number. Upon submitting my details I got a confirmation email saying that I will receive an invoice withing 24 hours, 15 minutes later I got the email that stated after I pay and fax proof of payment the new licence disc will be posted to me withing 5 working days. I EFT’d the amount over to the City Of Cape Town bank account and faxed proof of payment to the supplied number.

Friday evening upon checking my post box for post, low and behold there was my new vehicle licence disc, this all happened in a matter of 5 days from filling out the online form. I must admit I am really impressed with the new online process, now only if government can enable us to do more thing online.

One thing I think they can improve on with the new Online Vehicle Registration renewal is by also providing a licence disc sticker.

Should you divulge your vacation plans online?

Schools will be closing this week and the holiday is upon us all. This holiday I’m sure most of us will be going away for a while to take some time away from our busy schedules.

Today I saw a number of bloggers posting about their holiday plans and when they will be going away and for how long, this made me think, is it wise to divulge all your holiday plans online?

The internet is an great way to express your views on things and share stories of your live with fellow internet users, but it also make certain information freely available to crooks. What better way is it for a burglar to go search the web for posts about peoples holiday plans and then have enough time to burgle your house or office while you are away.

So please if you are going to tell us about your holiday plans keep it simple, do not give away exact dates and information that could be useful to criminals.

I know chances are slim that house burglars are really tech savvy, but you never know. What do you guys think about giving away such information on your sites?

Christopher Mills or Chris M as he is know in the local cyber arena wrote a blog post  with the heading Will you marry me and posted it online before asking his girl to go and check his site for some important information he needed.

Well done Chris and congrats, hope you two have a wonderful life together.

You can have a look at how he planned everything here. Nice way of doing it, because they will have this moment forever on his website.
