Now you can like the whole web

Like the whole web with FacebookGone are the days of not sharing stuff you like with your friends. Now you can Like just about anything on the web with the introduction of Facebook’s new Like button.

Facebook Founder & CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced some great changes to the social networking platform at this years f8 Developer Conference, one of this changes is the introduction of the new Facebook Like button.

Imagine you are online shopping or reading your favorite iGeek blog post and wanted to share this great item or article with your friends on Facebook without going through all the trouble of logging in to the Facebook site and pasting the link to friends there. Now publishers or any imaginable website on the Internet can just add the new Facebook Like button to their site and users can simply click it to share it with their friends.

Facebook Like Button Example

You can check it out running here on iGeek, works pretty great. What it does is when a user clicks on the Like button a link status gets posted to their Facebook profile, something along the lines of “Gerhard likes WordPress Facebook Like Plugin on iGeek”. Both the article and site name gets links to the relevant article or item or whatever the user shared and the site URL also.

If you are interested in running this on your WordPress site check out the WordPress Facebook Like Post plugin I wrote.

WordPress Facebook Like Plugin

New Facebook Like Button WordPress PluginWith the Facebook keynote over developers can start to put the new API to the test and start developing new plugins with Facebook functionality for the web.

Mark Zuckerberg founder and CEO of Facebook also introduced a new way of liking content on the web and sharing it with your Facebook friends. The new Like system allows you to put a like button on posts and enable users to share content with their friends without leaving your website.

This is where I thought I’d give it a shot and do a quick WordPress plugin to add a Like Button to posts.

To test it out simply download Facebook Like Posts WordPress plugin and add the code bellow to your single php file in your WordPress theme where you’d like your Like Button to display.

<?php display_facebook_like_button(); ?>

This is just a experimental plugin, you can place it in single posts or on your posts on the home page of your site.
