According to Business Insider, Apple is ready to launch the next generation iPad, the iPad 3 or whatever it may be called.
Analyst, Richard Gardner, from Citi has told Business Insider that Apple is ready to roll with a new iPad. Several industry sources has told Gardner that Apple will be launching their next generation iPad in February 2012.
Not much is know about the iPad 3 except that it will have double the resolution of the current iPad 2. Should the iPad 3 launch in February it will be less then a year since Apple launched the iPad 2.
DStv’s much anticipated video on demand movie rental system, DStv BoxOffice, went live this weekend but things did not go as smooth as planned.
The DStv BoxOffice service started becoming available to DStv premium PVR users since early morning Friday 22 July 2011, but since then allot of users are yet still to receive their movie rentals.
Friday evening I set out to test out the new BoxOffice service from DStv, only to be disappointed by the slow registration progress. To sign up you have to SMS your smartcard number and then your DStv BoxOffice account will be set up, I SMS’d my smartcard number through at around 19:00 and only the next morning at around 10:00 I got an SMS telling me that they are experiencing a large demand and are sitting with a backlog of SMS messages that will be attended to. In the SMS DStv also promised an extra free movie rental on the house to make up for the long wait.
Sunday around 12:00 me and the wife decided we wanted to watch a movie, so I set out and followed the rental process by SMSing the unique code to the number onscreen to initiate my movie rental. According to the instructions, shortly after you have SMS’ed the unique code through to the number you will notified via the DStv decoder messaging system that your movie is available to watch.
It is now Monday morning close to 09:00 and I am yet still to receive my movie rental.
For a company operated by Naspers with huge brands behind their name like MWeb one would expect that they would be used to high volume launches by now, I mean DStv knows how many subscribers they have and they know how many of them have PVR decoders, working out the demand would be easy.
Have you tried DStv BoxOffice? If so, tell us about your experience.
Both Vodacom and MTN officially launched the Apple iPhone 4 here in South Africa last night and since midnight consumers could get their hands on the device at selected flagship stores.
A previous screenshot leaked to the Internet of what was believed to have been official MTN iPhone 4 pricing was however not accurate but did in fact give us a great overview as to what we can expect to pay for the iPhone 4 here in South Africa.
Vodacom users can expect to get the iPhone 4 on all existing Vodacom tarrifs with it being free on the iPhone Talk 500 and Talk 1000 packages. The flagship Vodacom offer is the iPhone Talk 500 priced at R925 per month which includes the 16GB iPhone 4, 250MB data, 100 free SMS messages and 500 talk minutes a month.
MTN certainly means business and has undercut Vodacom heavily when it comes to pricing for the iPhone 4 in South Africa.
MTN users can expect to get the iPhone 4 starting from R379 per month which includes, R200 airtime, 150MB data, 25 free SMS messages with the 16GB iPhone 4. There is also an option with 300MB data for R429 per month. The 32GB iPhone 4 is available at R429 per month which includes 150MB data or R479 for 300MB of data.
You can get the iPhone 4 at 36 selected MTN stores and all 84 participating Vodacom outlets from today.
Every local Apple fanboi have been waiting for this moment for a very long time, and it has finally arrived. MTN and Vodacom are set to officially launch the Apple iPhone 4 in South Africa tonight at midnight.
MTN yesterday announced on a blog post that the Apple iPhone 4 will be available from midnight at the V&A Waterfront, Sandton City and Gateway MTN stores. During normal trading hours from tomorrow the iPhone 4 will be available at a multitude of selected MTN stores nationwide and by mid October the it should be available at over 250 MTN stores.
MTN is however not the only company set to do a midnight launch of the iPhone 4, Vodacom has also notified media and consumers about their plans to launch at midnight tonight with a launch party at its Vodaworld campus in Midrand.
It is still unclear as to what consumers can expect to pay for the iPhone 4 here in South Africa, but in the past the price of the iPhone was quite hefty, maybe we will see a drop now that MTN will also be stocking the iPhone 4.
For a detailed list of what MTN stores will be stocking the iPhone 4, see here.

This is all good and well, but when are we going to see local servers YouTube? Yes I know with Uncapped Internet now freely available in South Africa this should not be a problem, but speed wise I would still prefer a local server.
Congrats YouTube on your 5th anniversary and on launching the new local YouTube portal.
Check out the video of how YouTube became what it is today.

Nokia, the world’s biggest mobile phone maker, is suing American rival Apple for allegedly infringing patents on technology for the iPhone.
The Finnish firm yesterday said it had not been compensated – and Apple’s shares dipped as it was accused of trying for “a free ride on the back of Nokia’s innovation”.
The 10 claimed patent breaches include wireless data, security and encryption.
Nokia said they applied to all models of the iPhone since its launch in 2007 because Apple had not signed an agreement allowing it to use the technology as about 40 other companies had done.
This month, Nokia had its first quarterly loss in a decade as a seven per cent rise in iPhone sales let Apple report £1billion profits in the three months to September 26.
