iOS 4.3 Expected on 28 February

iOS 4.3 Expected end of FebruaryPreviously allot of online publications have speculated that iOS 4.3 would be available from 14 February, but the day has come and gone and still no iOS 4.3.

New evidence has surfaces though and it comes paired with the announced from Apple yesterday that they are introducing a in app recurring subscription based service via the App Store for publications like The Daily.

Opening up The Daily app on my iPad reveals that the free subscription has been extended to 2 March 2011, meaning that they anticipate the release of iOS 4.3 just before that date, like say the end of February.

What can you expect with iOS 4.3?

- Personal Hotspot
- New Multi-touch gestures for the iPad
- Airplay for third party apps and web apps
- A new FaceTime icon
- Full screen iAds
- Configurable side switch for the iPad
- New message alert settings
- New keyboard layout

The most anticipated feature must be the Personal Hotspot which will allow you to turn your iPhone into a personal hotspot to share your internet connection with other devices through WiFi.

iPhone OS 4.2 is here with multitasking for the iPad

Apple iPad iOS 4.2The much anticipated iPhone OS 4.2 has finally arrived for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch bringing much anticipated features like multitasking support on the iPad.

iPhone and iPod Touch models have been enjoying multitasking since the release of iPhone OS 4.0 earlier this year, but the iPhone OS 4.2 update marks the first time that iPad users get to experience switching back and forth between applications that runs in the background.

Apart from multitasking support the new iPhone OS 4.2 update also brings an array of new features to the iPhone, iPad and iPod such as AirPlay, a way to easily stream media from your iOS devices to the Apple TV, and AirPrint that enables you to print wirelessly straight from your iOS device.

Its clear that the iPad benefits the most from this iOS 4.2 update since iPad users were stuck on iOS 3.2.2 since the release. Who know, maybe now that the iPad has got all that extra features it may just be more appealing to buy it as a Christmas gift.

Get a US iTunes account in South Africa

The past weekend I received my iPad I won from Remax and immediatly started exploring seeing as this was my first Apple device. I quickly got the iPad up and running and started installing apps but then realized that I did not have access to all the wonderful apps everybody was talking about, reason I was using a South African iTunes account.

The nice thing about the South African iTunes account is that you can use your credit card directly on the App Store, the not so nice thing is that you do not have access to any of the great content available on the US iTunes App Store, that includes music, movies, episodes and apps.

Here is what I did to get access to the US iTunes app store.

  1. Open iTunes on your computer and head over to the iTunes store.
  2. Scroll to right at the bottom of the iTunes store and click the South African flag, this will bring up a list of countries, choose USA.US iTunes Account Select Country
  3. Once you have selected USA as your country, scroll to the section on the right of the iTunes store that says free apps and select an app you want. Any app will do just make sure it is a free app otherwise this will not work.US iTunes Account select free App
  4. Click the icon that says Free and a screen will pop up asking you to either log in or create a new iTunes account, click Create New Account and then follow the instructions on screen.US iTunes Account Create New Account
  5. Once you reach the section that asks you to enter your credit card information head over to Google Maps and locate a place in the US, I suggest a restaurant like McDonnalds or Burger King and use that as your address. Don’t worry Apple will not send snail mail to that address. Enter it on the screen, remember to use your own email address as you will need it to confirm your account. Also make sure you use the telephone number of the place, or at least make sure the area code matches.US iTunes Account Fake Address
  6. Once you have entered you fake US identity click continue and registration should now be completed. You will receive an email asking you to confirm your account, simply click the link in the email and you will now be able log in with your US iTunes account to get access to all the great content.

Unfortunately when you have a US iTunes account in South Africa you can not use your South African credit card, but great news is that you can buy credits in the form of vouchers to use on the iTunes store. iTunes vouchers are obtainable through websites like WildTwig and iEverything.

These vouchers are a bit more expensive then the actual value on them but thats a small price to pay to get access to all the great apps, movies, series and music in the US iTunes store, plus they get delivered straight to your inbox almost instantly after payment have been confirmed. WildTwig and iEverything offers the best prices for US iTunes Vouchers, check out my iTunes voucher price comparison here.

I’ll be doing some more posts on iPad apps, tips and tricks from now on.

If this post was useful to you please feel free to make a small donation to show your appreciation

iPhone OS 4 brings multitasking folders and more

iPhone OS 4About a year ago Apple introduced the iPhone OS 3 which added MMS, Tethering and copy and paste support to its iPhones. Today at the iPhone OS 4 developer preview Apple has introduced an array of new features, the most important one every body has been waiting for being Multitasking.

iPhone OS 4 will bring multitasking, folders and home screen wallpapers just to mention a few, but is this little to late? The problem with the new multitasking is that it is not really multitasking as not everything can utilise it.

Apple will only be introducing 7 services that will take advantage of its new multitasking functionality, they are Background audio streaming, Voice over IP applications like Skype, background location, push and local notifications, task completion, and fast app switching.

Apple is also introducing an array of other updates to some of its apps like the mail client and introducing iBook to the iPhone that is originally an iPad app.

Bad news for people still owning a 2nd generation iPhone or iPod touch hey will run many things, but not everything — they will not support multitasking, the hardware just can’t do it.

iPhone and iPad users can expect the iPhone OS 4 update in fall this year.

Me I am still very happy with my HTC Hero running Android, all of the extra functionality that is only being introduced to the iPhone OS 4 now Android users have been enjoying for long now.
