MTN Introduces White iPhone 4

MTN South Africa White iPhone 4It has been a hot topic of debate, when will we see the white iPhone 4? After the successful launch of the iPhone 4 in September 2010 in South Africa, consumers have been asking when they could get their hand on the white iPhone 4.

Apple officially made available the white iPhone 4 last month in the US and it seems that South Africans wanting to get their hand on the device won’t have to wait that long.

MTN which launched the iPhone 4 here in South Africa at really affordable prices last year is again at it by being the first to introduce the white iPhone 4 to South Africa.

“From as little as R309 a month, with a 150MB data bundle included, MTN customers can experience world-class internet in their pockets,” says Serame Taukobong, chief marketing officer at MTN South Africa.

The white iPhone 4 will be available at MTN stores from 20 May 2011 without any pre-registrations.

The Apple iPad will for sure be on the list of every iGeek out there this Christmas. The Apple iPad is a revolutionary product that changed the way we consume the web, read books and watch videos. I was sceptic at first but since I have had my iPad I can’t believe how I could live without it, it just simplifies your life specially if you are on the go.

The Samsung Galaxy S with its iPhone like design is powered by the popular Android platform, features a 1GHz processor and the world largest AMOLED screen. This is definitely a must have seeing as it was awarded the best smartphone of 2010-2011 at the annual EISA Awards. If you are a die hard Android fan this one comes recommended.

Garmin Nüvi 1410

My cheap o GPS has served me well over the past couple of years, but if I had to choose a new GPS the Garmin Nüvi 1410 will be mu first choice. It has a massive 12.7cm screen with features such as text to speech, bluetooth and live traffic updates.

FaceTime for Mac Beta Available

FaceTime for Mac Beta availableApple yesterday held an event where they introduced a array of new products focussed on the Mac, some things announced was an 11″ and 13″ Macbook Air, new Mac OS X called Lion, an app store for Mac and then FaceTime for Mac.

FaceTime was first introduced when Apple launched the iPhone 4 earlier this year, it allows you to make “Video Calls” to other iPhone 4 or iPod Touch devices, that was until now. Apple has now introduced FaceTime for Mac Beta which allows you to make video calls from your Mac not just to other Macs but to any iPhone 4 or new iPod Touch device.

Using FaceTime for Mac is really simple, all you need is an Apple ID and email address and you are ready to go. Making FaceTime calls is as simple as entering an iPhone 4 cellphone number or email address if you are dialing to a iPod Touch device, a confirmation window will pop up on the other side and when the user confirms you are ready to start chatting face to face.

As with any other beta product there could be a few bugs, but if you would like to try out FaceTime for Mac you can grab it from the Apple website.

iPhone 4 Midnight Launch

MTN Vodacom Apple iPhone 4 Midnight LaunchEvery local Apple fanboi have been waiting for this moment for a very long time, and it has finally arrived. MTN and Vodacom are set to officially launch the Apple iPhone 4 in South Africa tonight at midnight.

MTN yesterday announced on a blog post that the Apple iPhone 4 will be available from midnight at the V&A Waterfront, Sandton City and Gateway MTN stores. During normal trading hours from tomorrow the iPhone 4 will be available at a multitude of selected MTN stores nationwide and by mid October the it should be available at over 250 MTN stores.

MTN is however not the only company set to do a midnight launch of the iPhone 4, Vodacom has also notified media and consumers about their plans to launch at midnight tonight with a launch party at its Vodaworld campus in Midrand.

It is still unclear as to what consumers can expect to pay for the iPhone 4 here in South Africa, but in the past the price of the iPhone was quite hefty, maybe we will see a drop now that MTN will also be stocking the iPhone 4.

For a detailed list of what MTN stores will be stocking the iPhone 4, see here.

Pre-order your iPhone 4 through Vodacom

Vodacom iPhone 4 pre-order

Vodacom is giving all you die hard Apple iPhone fans the chance to be one of the first South Africans to own an Apple iPhone 4.

The new iPhone 4 is the latest smartphone from Apple which sports rear and front facing cameras, runs the new iOS 4 operating system and has the all new Retina Display which ensures for a resolution of 960×640 with 326 pixels per inch.

Despite the fact the new iPhone 4 has a design flaw resulting in it loosing signal when holding it “incorrectly”, many die hard Apple fans still want one.

South Africans can currently import the iPhone 4 from overseas but that will result in its warranty not being valid in South Africa and if something should go wrong with your iPhone 4 you will need to ship it back overseas to get it fixed.

Good news for local Apple iPhone fans is that Vodacom has now opened up pre-orders of the iPhone 4. If you would like to be one of the first people to get your hands on an iPhone 4 that came through the correct channels, you can now pre-order your iPhone 4 here.

You don’t need to be a Vodacom subscriber to make a pre-order. According to Vodacom CEO Pieter Uys, the Apple iPhone 4 is expected in South Africa somewhere near the end of September. MTN subscribers can also look forward to the iPhone 4 from this year.

Apple iPhone 4 Announced

Apple iPhone 4Last night twitter was a buzz with Apple news, and one thing every Apple fanatic was waiting for was the announcement of Apple’s latest iPhone, the iPhone 4.

Steve Jobs started his keynote with “Here is something you already seen”, referring to the iPhone 4 that was lost.

When it comes to looks , Apple has again done a great job with the iPhone 4. Super slim and super sexy, in fact the iPhone 4 is the slimmest smartphone available on the market coming in at a mere 9.3mm thickness.

Another feature about the iPhone 4 that stood out to me was the Retina display, what this basically does is make the pixel density more allowing for a larger 960 x 640 resolution with crisper and clearer picture.

So its no secret that I am not a big Apple fan, and apart from the long battery life and the Retina display, the iPhone 4 is still just another smartphone.

The 5 Mega-pixel camera with LED flash, is something that is stock standard on most smartphones now a days, even the HTC Wildfire, a lower end smartphone comes with this. Also 720p HD video recording is also the norm on the latest smartphones, what makes the iPhone different here is that Apple developed an app where you can edit your videos on the go, unfortunately this comes at a price as everything with an i attached to it.

Thinking of importing this baby to South Africa? Maybe you should think again, to make space for the large battery in the  small iPhone 4, Apple had to use a micro sim slot. I am not 100% sure what the status are for microsims on South African networks, so maybe you should double check before importing a iPhone 4, on the other hand you can always trim your normal sim to make it fit.

Apart from the few features I pointed out the iPhone 4 is pretty stock standard when you compare it to say the HTC Desire. One think that really annoyed me about Apple and the iPhone 4 is the fact that they trying to introduce video calling on the iPhone 4 as a new technology called FaceTime. Come on Apple my Nokia of 5 years back could have done video calling, and better than the iPhone as FaceTime will currently only work over WiFi.

All in all the new iPhone 4 is really a beautiful device, something Apple gets right every time, but when it comes to features I am not yet convinced to make a switch.

If you are however a die hard Apple fan, the iPhone 4 is expected to ship 24 June.
