Android Market Gets Overhauled

Android Market OverhaulIt feels like just the other day that Google revamped the Android Market giving it a great new look, but it seems the Google Mobile team has been at it again.

Google yesterday announced in a blog post that they have been working hard at improving the Android Market and has now released a brand new version. The new Android Market not just gives you new ways to find great applications and games, but the company has now also introduced movie rentals and book purchases.

Movie rentals and book purchases will however only be available to U.S. users, but you can see Google has put allot of thought into this as when you rent a movie or purchase a book it gets linked to your Google account making it instantly available across all of your devices - computer, phone, or tablet.

The new Android Market layout overhaul makes it faster, easier, and more fun to discover great apps, movies, and books. Google has not just increased the space to feature some of the most interesting content of the week, but they have also introduced staff picks and editors’ choice sections in addition to new top chart sections that will showcase the most interesting apps of the week.

The new Android Market will only be available to Android handsets running Android 2.2 Froyo and up and will be rolled out to users around the world in the coming weeks.

Exclusive Books puts Flash Mob Fire Sale on hold indefinitely

Exclusive Books Flash Mob Fire SaleExclusive Books have been running their Flash Mob Fire Sale for the past few weeks. The Flash Mob Fire Sale is run from Twitter and Facebook once a week when Exclusive Books decide now is the time and then opens up items in a certain category for sale on their website.

The nice thing about the Flash Mob Fire Sale was that you could get nice things for next to nothing, not so long ago they had a sale on certain games where titles like Fifa 2011 for Xbox went for R50.

Bad news is that the sale has been put on hold, I noticed a tweet on Twitter where Exclusive Books announced that the Flash Mob Fire Sale will be on hold indefinitely due to circumstances beyond their control.

Back to normal shopping again, I guess the sale was too big a success and started hurting their pockets a bit.

Google Goggles – Visual search for Android

Gone are the days of typing your search queries into Google, Android users now have the ability to just take a photo and search the web with that.

Google Goggle is the latest hip among Android users, imagine you are in an unknown city having a look at landmarks and have no idea what the landmark is you are looking at. Just fire up Google Goggles, take a picture and it will tell you exactly what landmark it is that you are looking at. Same goes for books and art. Want to know some information about local businesses? You don’t even need to take a photo, just point to the business and Google Goggles will display information regarding the business on screen.

To get yourself a copy of Google Goggles, open up the Android Market and search for Google Goggles. Just note that it is only available for Android 1.6+ so no luck for South African Hero owners for now. Have to wait for Leaf to give us the latest Android firmware, scheduled for release somewhere in December.
