DStv Mobile the new mobile television service from Multichoice that allows you to view a range of DStv channels straight on your mobile phone has announced that the release of their Android and Nokia apps are almost here.
DStv Mobile launched in December 2010 with the Drifta decoder, a mobile decoder that allows PC users and Apple iPad, iPhone4 and iPod users to view the channels on their devices, but lets face it although the Drifta decoder comes in at an affordable price of just under R600, the currently supported devices are limited.
DStv Mobile has however announced on their Twitter account that from April 2011 the Drifta will be compatible with certain Nokia and Android phones through the new applications that they plan to released.
The Drifta decoder works by receiving the DStv Mobile DVB-H signal and then retransmitting it over WiFi where phones, PC’s or devices with the DStv Mobile application can then receive it to view the channels.
DStv is set to launch the DStv Mobile service on 1 April 2011 commercially at a cost of R36 per month, there are however speculation that premium DStv subscribers would have access to the service for free. The service is currently in trial and you can buy your Drifta decoder at major retailers and make use of it for free until the end of March 2011.

Hah, if only DSTV Android app was available. They said it has been delayed. Super disappointed. ATM my Drifta is gathering dust.
when do you think the Android will ever be ready?
Hi GJG100, yea DStv is very vague on announcing exact dates cause then they can be held liable. But I do agree, it really is time for this apps to surface now.
Same… just lying gathering dust!
Does not even work in my windows vm
You guys are still lucky, East London is conciderd an un importatnt town to DSTV, we dont even have Drifta signal yet and I think we in for a long wait, funny some neibouring coutries had it from the 1st April already, now we know where thier priorities lie……

I just got the drifta, loving it on my laptop so far, guess cause im a big sport fan
but interested to know if there will be an app for sony ericsson vivaz pro, any idea? Thanks
Im really disapointed with dstv, I was so excited aboit the whole drifta thing. But now im not able to use it on my android. Sad, really sad.
I am downright annoyed at the lies!!!!
April has come and gone, I bought my drifta in good faith that I would be able to use it on my HTC Desire HD (Android)
I also have a Desire HD and am waiting for the app. In the meantime it works okay on my laptop and PC but the definition isn’t great. I beleive that the sports channels are good value for my R32, but I am hoping there will be some channels that I can watch. Any idea when the apps will happen?
was again searching the adroid market for the dstv mobile download but nothing….
have sonyericsson satio that uses symbian s60 from nokia but still unable to use the dstv mobile application in it.
I am gonna be pissed if this is not working by world cup time…..
Yeah, come on guys the world cup is just around the corner and still NO andriod software ? What’s going on ….. you said this would be released in April 2011, we are in August !!
DStv Mobile Android app has been released but has limited device support http://www.igeek.co.za/2011/09/07/dstv-mobile-android-app/
Sir, today 19-09-2011 I contacted The Satellite Shop in East London to query the Drifta. Firstly the channels available are utter crap. I am NOT into sport. Secondly I am NOT into modern noise or music, whatever you wish to call it. Third you cannot provide me with the channels I would like to see because YOU DO NOT COVER EAST LONDON where I live. Makes me want to cancel my Dstv premium service and go to TOP TV where I know I’m going to get shit! Thank you for absolutely nothing. By thw way the Satellite Shop did NOT say the service doesn’t cover EL.
Will there be a app for Motorola xoom to watch dstv mobile?
Is there a Dstv mobile decoder application that I can download for Nokia N9?
I have to say this, dstv drifta, and walker is just a joke. The clarity of the video is terrible. Its like they are still teting their product while selling it to the public. The video freezes to often.
Dstv once had a phone that they were testing, that was much better than what they have now. I gave my drifta away because watching through frifta or walker is like watching a poor pirated version of an original. I discourage anyone from buying any of these priducts. Just a waste of money.
Dstv, I give up on you.
