MTN is kicking dust in the face of competitors when it comes to introducing new phones to the local South African market, they did it when they launched the iPhone 4 and now again it seems that they will be doing it with the release of the HTC Desire HD and Samsung Galaxy Tab P1.
MTN will be the first local cellphone operator to introduce a tablet to the South African market on contract, everybody has been waiting for the iPad to become available seeing as consumers in our neighboring country Namibia are already enjoying the Apple iPad on contract from the only mobile network operator. MTN already has the Samsung Galaxy Tab P1 on their price list and by the looks of things it’s affordable.
Apart from the Samsung Galaxy Tab, MTN also has the all new HTC Desire HD, the next generation Android phone that is set to compete head on with the Apple iPhone 4, on their price list.

I tried your link to MTN SP but there is NO reference to either of the above mentioned. I tried a search too but no luck!

@RaZeal yea they removed it a few hours after I made the post.
I was lucky enough to see the info on their website too. I clicked on the upgrade link, selected the package and it asked if I wanted to upgrade to the HTC Desire HD and I confirmed. It gave a message to say I’ll be contacted by a consultant.
It seems that they made an error by loading this information too soon. Because when I returned to the site later, it had been removed.
I’m hoping they keep the pricing the same as it will be amazing to get the Desire HD for so little.
lol… MTN is too eager to get these babies out! Maybe it’s a marketing thing they’re trying to get some hype going! Brilliant if that is the case..

lol…….. I see MTN has now put the Galaxy Tab back on their site after the Upgrades options being down for a few days. What are they up to? They don’t whether they’re coming or going.

There was an advertisement at the my broadband conference yesterday from I think vodacom. For R185p/m with 500Mb per month.
Did anyone else see this ?
Though must admit did not look at the fine print.
It was where they were showing the Ipad off. (They couldn’t say when it was going to be released.)
Wow! That would be amazing if correct! Seems like the Desire HD will be cheaper then the other current smartphones? Strange! But would be happy if they are true! Now for the big question – WHEN!

Lab88 has the desire hd and others on pre-order but no price yet. The month mentioned is november, so hopefully it is *fingers crossed*
I phoned MTN, and they said that the HTC Desire HD is not listed for release this year. They only expect it to be released Q1 2011 !!
