Forrst WP WordPress Plugin

Forrst is a new online community where developers and designers can share inspiring code, links and screenshots. Think of it as a social network for developers and designers out there.

Forrst is currently only available on invite and I am lucky enough to be part of this great community, checking in daily to see what interesting things like-minded peers are up to.

Forrst recently released a, lets call it API, with limited functionality where you can look up user info and posts for specific users. It got me thinking seeing as I am such a big fan of WordPress, why not have a nice widget where you can showcase your latest Forrest Post and this is where Forrst WP was born.

Forrst WP is a WordPress plugin that enables you to place a WordPress Widget on your site showing your the latest Forrst Posts for the user you specified. Forrst WP currently has limited functionality seeing that the Forrst API is very restricted at the moment only allowing you to look up posts and user information for specific users.

Forrst WordPress Widget PluginTo use Forrst WP, simply download the file below, extract and upload it to your WordPress plugins directory. #NewTwitter shortcuts you may not know of

I was one of the lucky few South Africans that had access to #NewTwitter only a few days after it went live, and since then I have been playing around with it and discovering all sorts of new “hidden” features.

The #NewTwitter was created with ease of use in mind, no more navigating away from your main timeline to view images or videos, or going from page to page to follow a conversation between Twitter users, everything are now displayed on one page with the use of nifty slide out panels.

Apart from the fancy sliding panels there is a hidden features that I stumbled upon by accidentally hitting the R key on my keyboard. #NewTwitter has a handy set of keyboard shortcuts you can make use of.

New Twitter Keyboard Shortcuts

After some playing around I found the above screen detailing a list of all available keyboard shortcuts for #NewTwitter. The shortcuts range from replying to tweets, retweeting, compiling new tweets, to going to certain user profiles with just the push of a button.

If you are enabled for #NewTwitter you can just press the ? key on your keyboard and it will bring up the above shortcut screen, now go test those shortcuts.

If you are on Twitter you can follow me at @diekloon

Which one of the above tablets would you prefer?

BlackBerry Playbook: Another tablet announced

Up until now the only real tablet set to take on the Apple iPad was the Samsung Galaxy Tab, but now RIM is set to change that with the introduction of their very own tablet called the BlackBerry Playbook.

BlackBerry Playbook Tablet Computer

The BlackBerry Playbook is an ultra portable tablet with a 7″ LCD display capable of 1024 x 600 screen resolution. The Playbook offers games, media, apps and everything the real Internet offers including support for Flash 10.1 and HTML 5.

The Playbook runs the new BlackBerry Tablet OS with on-screen keyboard and true multitasking capabillities powered by a dual-core processor. Apart from all the power under the hood the BlackBerry Playbook also has 2 HD cameras, a 5MP back-facing and 3MP front-facing camera, enabling you to make video conference calls with rich stereo sound.

The BlackBerry Playbook looks as if it is more aimed at the business market than the comercial market which its integration with other BlackBerry devices. All in all the BlackBerry Playbook does look like a good contender for the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy Tab.

HTC Desire Z: A closer look

HTC last week unveiled two new smartphones to the market, the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Desire Z. Both these phones are built on top of the HTC Desire’s success.

Here is a closer look at the HTC Desire Z, a lower end model of the HTC Desire with a QWERTY keyboard.

R99 per month Uncapped Internet

Axxess Just Surf Uncapped Internet R99 per monthEarlier this year MWEB started the broadband price wars by bringing affordable uncapped Internet to the South African market, a few months in and just about every other ISP out there are offering these uncapped accounts undercutting MWEB with a few rands here and there but nothing big.

Axxess has now introduced a brand new Uncapped Internet offer to the market aimed at the average household user that would just like to surf the Web, watch Youtube videos, Skype with their friends and family and download the odd file now and then.

The new package from Axxess is called Just Surf and offers the average household user Uncapped Internet at a mere price of only R99 per month for 384Kbps. There are also 512Kbps and 1024Kbps Uncapped Internet packages available at R149 per month and R249 per month.

Managing Director of Axxess, Andrew Simpson, has however warned that the Just Surf packages are not meant for heavy downloaders and even though there are no Fair Usage Policy on these new Uncapped Internet accounts, users making use of bulk downloading protocols like BitTorrent or any other Peer 2 Peer service will be slowed down.

Other ISPs are however not sitting back and within hours of Axxess announcing their new Just Surf Uncapped Internet packages, OpenWeb has already hit back by introducing the exact same Uncapped Internet packages undercutting Axxess by a mere R1.

OpenWeb’s Uncapped Internet are priced as follows:

  1. R98 – 384Kbps
  2. R148 – 512Kbps
  3. R248 – 1024Kbps
