Twitter To Launch Official Tweet Buttons

For long TweetMeme ruled the world of ReTweet buttons for sites, you know those buttons next to, above or bellow articles that you use to share it with the world. Well that is about to come to an end for TweetMeme because Twitter is set to launch their own Tweet buttons for publishers.

Bellow I have embedded a Tweet button from Twitter, although it seems to embed fine, clicking on it to share the article just redirects you to a not found page.

The functionality is currently only available to certain Twitter account holders, what should happen when you click the Tweet button is that a window will pop up asking you to log into Twitter and then enables you to customise the message to send with the URL.

Rumor has it that the new Tweet buttons should be activated sometime this week. For more information about embedding the official Twitter Tweet buttons on your site see the document bellow.

First Android Trojan Runs Amok

Android SMS Trojan Runs AmokWith the large uptake of the Android operating system by manufacturers and users alike, it was bound to happen some time.

The first Android trojan has started running amok on large numbers of phones running the popular Operating System by Google. The trojan called Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a is disguised as a harmless media player application.

Once the trojan has been installed on your Android phone it actually goes about SMSing premium subscription numbers automatically. The trojan was apparently developed by these premium subscribers themselves and could leave a big dent in your pocket when your cellphone account arrives at the end of the month.

Good news is the that it only seems to have affected users from Russia, but just to make sure, there is a way to keep your phone safe from the trojan, if you go to Settings -> Applications just uncheck Allow Unknown Source and you should be safe.

Telkom 10Mbps ADSL Line Upgrade in Progress

Telkom 10Mbps ADSL UpgradeTelkom started roll out of its 10Mbps ADSL network the past weekend. The upgrade of about 19000 4Mbps ADSL subscribers to 10Mbps started on Friday at round about 8PM and will last up to 7 days to complete.

Users that are approximately 1.5KM from the exchange can expect to be upgraded to the higher 10Mbps speeds while other users further away will be bumped up to 8Mbps. Should you not be able to sync at these speeds Telkom will try and sync at lower speeds decreasing at 1Mbps each try.

Apparently the 10Mbps upgrade is only available to current Telkom 4Mbps users that are on the new Metro-Ethernet and ADSL2+ exchanges, where these exchanges are located is unknown but according to reports on the MyBroadband forums users are being upgraded in certain areas of Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria.

The big question on everyone’s’ lips are still will lower-end users also be upgraded to higher packages like Telkom did previously with the upgrade from 192Kbps to 386Kbps? And also will the 512Kbps user again be left out?

Have your line been upgraded to 10Mbps yet? To find out if your line has been upgraded to 10Mbps head on over to SpeedTest.Net and do a speed test or log into your router and check the speeds at which your line is syncing.

Mao’s Last Dancer Review

Mao's Last Dancer Movie ReviewDirector: Bruce Beresford Screenplay: Jan Sardi, based on the autobiography by Li Cunxin Cast: Chi Cao, Bruce Greenwood, Kyle MacLachlan, Joan Chen Time: 114min Age Restriction: 10M

Genre:

Drama

Summary Review:

Mao’s Last Dancer is a captivating film with exquisite dancing and acting, about finding the inner strength and discipline to pursue your dreams.

Synopsis:

Li Cunxin (Chi Cao) grew up in Communist China in the 1970′s. At the age of 11, he was “chosen” and taken from his family to become part of the first ever Chinese ballet company.

Madame Mao, wife of Mao Zedong, the dictatorial leader of the Communist Party, strove to revolutionise the country’s cultural landscape along with its political and economic landscapes. The ballet was thus meant to be an artistic representation of China’s revolt against the Western principle of capitalism.

But Li is discovered by the artistic director of an American ballet company and given the opportunity to go to America as an exchange student. Suddenly, opportunities and possibilities that he could never have imagined begin opening up to him.

Mao’s Last Dancer is an engrossing film about courage and discovering new ideas and freedoms. It is based on Li Cunxin’s autobiography of the same name.

The dancing is fantastic and the cinematography does a brilliant job of translating the contrast between Communist China and liberal America into visuals.

But nothing can steal the show away from the remarkable character of Li, around whom the entire film revolves.

Facebook Upgrades Its Android App

Just yesterday I updated my HTC Hero to the latest available Android OS for it, namely Android 2.1, and while installing all my social networking applications one thing that came to mind was that the official Facebook for Android App hasn’t been updated in a while.

This morning however I was greeted with a message telling mere there is an update available for Facebook for Android.

Google is currently fast gaining ground with its Android OS, it for the first time outsold Apple, and even Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has started using it. The question now is was it to test out the new app? Whatever the reasons are, the new Facebook for Android App is here and is available in the Android  market.

There is a couple of immediate noticeable addition to the Facebook for Android App, like the new photo stream that is at the bottom of the home screen of the app. The new photo stream shows all the latest photos your friends have uploaded, allowing you to side-scroll to see more and tap to view the larger version. There is also the new Notifications bar at the bottom of the home screen, which when you slide it upwards shows you a list of all your latest notifications, previous app you had to go to Facebook site to view this.

Facebook For Android Application

The new app also have some other nice to haves, like a sleeker interface, in-app video playback and enabling you to add friends from within the application. Another thing I noticed is that you can now actually follow links in wall posts too.

One feature that Facebook for Android still lacks is the chat functionality there is in the iPhone client, but hopefully Facebook will be enlightening us with more upgrades to the application now since Mark Zuckerberg is also running Android.

Top 3 Twitter Clients For Android

Top 3 Twitter Clients for AndroidAndroid OS’s popularity have steadily been on the rise since it was released into the market, and since it has become a serious contender for the likes of Apple and Blackberry. Since the launch of Android, app numbers have been increasing tremendous with over 500000 applications currently available in the Android Market.

With social media being part of our daily lives nowadays, the need for Facebooking or Tweeting on the go is increasing and having the perfect application to accomplish your task is what matters. Here is a list of what I deem is the three best Twitter clients available for the Android platform.

Twitter for Android

Twitter for Android is the official Twitter for Android developed by Twitter themselves. The app has everything one would need from a Twitter client and then some more, this was developed by Twitter themselves so it should be good.

When it comes to speed Twitter for Android is lightening fast, but this may be due to the fact that the timeline does not get updated when you open up the application. The downside about Twitter for Android is that it’s unfortunately only available for Android 2.1 (Eclair) and up.

It looks sleek, works great, is fast and free, everything one would want from a Twitter client.

Twidroyd

Twidroyd is known as the ultimate Twitter client for Android, something big to live up to, but Twidroyd does it well being packed with features.

Twitdroyd has support for plugins, list edits, native bit.ly support and a offline outbox should your network connection drop while sending that all important tweet. This all however comes at a small price, to get your hands on all these features you will have to fork out a few bucks. There is a free version available but forget about multiple accounts and the fancy things above, the free version however is still a great product.

The interface is easy to navigate and lightweight, everything is where it should be and with plugin support you can easily expand Twidroyd for extra functionality like showing locations on a map.

Seesmic

Seesmic is my new favorite Twitter app for Android, Seesmic recently released a new version of their application for Android adding some great new features like Google Buzz support.

Seesmic has support for multiple accounts and its interface is clean and easy to navigate. Out of the box it has support for an array of third party api’s for URL shortening and video and photo uploading. This all can be done right from where you type your tweet. Also the new in-line image preview functions is a nice addition to Seesmic, now you do not have to click on a image URL to see whats behind it, it will show a thumbnail in your timeline.

It has native support for Geolocation, enabling you to see who of your friends tweet nearby you on a map. Seesmic also comes with a nice widget you can place on one of your homescreens and notification alert when someone mentions or DM you while you are not using the application.

The nice thing about Seesmic is that all these features are available to you in a free application on any Android smartphone.

Conclusion

All of the above Twitter clients have the basic functionality that allows you to send out a tweet, but they also have their own unique features that makes them outshine the rest. If you are into nice looking applications with all the functionality needed for tweeting then I’d say go for Twitter for Android. If you are a power user wanting all that extras and do not mind forking out a few buck then go for Twidroyd, it possibly is the best application out there for Twitter if you don’t mind paying.

If I had to choose a winner out of the three I would with out a doubt choose Seesmic, I have used their desktop client before and ditched it after a month or two, but the new Android client is really a great app. It comes with everything a normal user would need and then some more for the power users, and the best thing is all its features are free.

Inception Review

Inception Movie ReviewDirector: Christopher Nolan Screenplay: Christopher Nolan Cast: Leonardo Di Caprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard Time: 148min Age Restriction: 13V

Genre:
Sci-fi/Thriller

Summary Review:
Inception is a must-see film, setting new standards in creativity, special effects and just plain awesomeness.

Synopsis:
Extraction is the process of stealing people’s thoughts, secrets or ideas, by entering their dreams and gaining access to the deepest vaults of their subconscious.

Mr Cobbs (Leonardo Di Caprio) is the most skilled extractor on the planet. Mr Saito (Ken Watanabe) hires Cobbs and his associate Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) to do something much more difficult, though.

Mr Saito wants them to introduce a new idea into someone’s mind – this is called inception.

But Cobbs has his own mental baggage and a dark secret that threatens to sabotage the entire project.
Inception is an intensely complex film, but is also very fast-paced and if you miss even one line of dialogue, you could lose the plot completely.

This complexity also means that there isn’t much time for the new relationships between the characters to develop, so in one scene they’ll be complete strangers and in the next scene they’ll be treating each other like they’ve known each other for years.

But that is something you just accept, because Inception is so extraordinary. Not only will it keep you thinking throughout, the brilliant cinematography and special effects used to create the different dream worlds is ingenious.

A friend of mine recently studied Plato’s theory of The Cave and how that idea was reflected in The Matrix Trilogy of films, and there are definitely some philosophical comparisons that can be drawn with Inception.

Marion Cotillard plays one of the strangest antagonistic characters of all time, Joseph Gordon-Levitt gets to trade his nerdy image for some super cool action moves and there are refreshing slashes of humour at the most unexpected moments, which gives some relief to the tense rollercoaster ride of the story and adds a hint of charm and humanity to Inception and its characters.
