Win with Springleap and the World Cup

South African startup Springleap, is giving users the chance to win two Springleap T-Shirts a month for the rest of the year by asking them to find four cups related to the World Cup semi final teams.

Here is what you’ll need to do to win

1. COLLECT
4 cups will be posted all over the internet (maybe there is one here somewhere). Each cup corresponds to a team participating in the semi-finals (Uruguay, Germany, Spain and Netherlands). Your mission is to find the cup that represents the team you think will win the World Cup 2010.

This is what a cup looks like (This is the what the Brazilian cup would look like if they weren’t taken out)

Where you’ll find the cups:
FredRoed
Ideate
iMod
iGeek

Springleap’s Facebook Fanpage
Springleap’s Twitter stream

2. PREDICT
Follow this link and predict who you think will get to the finals along with your score prediction.

When you have the cup that represents your prediction for the big win, send it to:
marketing@springleap.com along with your final score prediction.

3. POST
In support of your team, upload the cup to your Facebook profile to show your support (this isn’t part of the competition but we do think it would be awesome to show your team some love!)

4. WIN
The very best part! The first participant to submit the winning cup as well as the closest final score prediction will win 2 Springleap T-shirts a month for the rest of the year!!! The winner will be announced on the 12th of July 2010.

So what are you waiting for, start searching for those missing cups and get your hands on some pretty decent Springleap T-Shirt.

New IS uncapped ADSL packages and prices revealed

Internet Solutions (IS) will be repackaging it current Uncapped ADSL and Express packages from the 1st of August 2010.

IS will be launching its uncapped ADSL services to the SME and Home markets through their wholesale reseller channel. The repackaging include the implementation of a fair usage policy and the consolidation of the existing express uncapped ADSL packages under a single range running over SEACOM.

“In designing the new range of uncapped services IS has focused on sustainability and will be introducing a fair usage policy. In short, the new products will offer a great service for light and moderate users and the introduction of a new 1024kbps service will help fill the gap in both pricing and throughput,” said IS.

Suggested retail pricing for IS uncapped

Product Price
Uncapped Basic 384 R 189.00
Uncapped Basic 512 R 329.00
Uncapped Basic 1024 R 469.00
Uncapped Basic 4096 R 1659.00
Uncapped Basic lite 4096 R 499.00

With the introduction of SEACOM we have seen a large number of ISPs jumping onboard the uncapped ADSL bandwagon offering cheap uncapped options to the public, but with recent problems on the SEACOM cable its clear that cheap uncapped does not always result in the best service with redundancy.

I guess you will always get what you pay for.

The Maid Review

The Maid Movie ReviewNo, I did not review Eclipse this weekend. If you’re a fan of The Twilight Saga, you’re going to watch Eclipse regardless of what my review says.  So today there’s something a little different for your attention.

The Maid Review

Director: Sebastián Silva Screenplay: Pedro Peirano, Sebastián Silva Cast: Catalina Saavedra, Claudia Celedón, Mariana Loyola, Agustín Silva Time: 95min Age Restriction: 16SNL

Genre:
Dramedy

Summary Review:
The Maid is an award-winning Chilean film about the dangers of isolation and living your life through the achievements of others.

Synopsis:
Raquel (Catalina Saavedra) has been a maid for the Valdes family for 20 years. Although it would seem as though she is part of the family, in reality there has always been the differentiation between the employers and their help.

As a consequence of this emotional exclusion, Raquel has become a rigid and mean-spirited sort of robot, who has buried all the hopes and dreams of her youth. So she works, never changing her facial expression or conversing about anything that does not have to do with her direct duties and responsibilities as a maid.

Raquel no longer puts much effort into her appearance, wearing her uniform as a suit of armour; and she has suppressed the desires for her own family by regarding the Valdes children as her own.

As she gets older, however, the burden of working for such a large family and its huge house becomes too much for Raquel to manage and Mrs. Valdes (Claudia Celedón) hires a series of maids to assist her. But Raquel sees this as a personal insult and makes it unbearable for the new maids to cope.

That is, until Lucy arrives – a secure and compassionate girl whose warmth thaws Raquel’s frozen humanity and brings her back to life.

The Maid is a touching, but hard, look at the dangers of loneliness and suppressing one’s personality, along with the dreams and desires of the heart.

Despite its roughness, The Maid is also filled with a wry, sardonic sense of humour that makes it a rueful pleasure to watch.

Special Note:

I love watching foreign-language films, because they are usually so different from what we’re used to seeing. The filmmakers’ perspective are fully original, the structure and flow of the films are so creative and the stories are fascinating.

If you’ve never watched a foreign-language film before, try out The Maid or give yourself a treat and watch Broken Embraces, Pedro Almodóvar’s latest film starring Penélope Cruz, to see how exotic and complex these films really can be.

Facebook Introduces New Hovercard Feature

Social Networking giant Facebook is again borrowing features from micro blogging service Twitter. A few months back Twitter introduced a nice handy feature called Hovercards, which saves users a few clicks by popping op an hovercard with certain options when hovering over a user’s name.

Facebook is always aiming to bring it users the best possible experience by introducing all sorts of new features, and it is no surprise to see them copying the handy hovercard feature from Twitter and introducing it on their site.

Facebook Hovercards

Facebook added the hovercard feature to their site which you can see by hovering your mouse over the name of friends or pages you like. Hovercards is a real handy feature one would just think that Facebook will introduce more options on the hovercards.

Currently hovercards on Facebook only have an option to message a user when you hover over their name, apart from that the hovercard also display mutual friends and how many people like a page when you hover over a page name.

Hovercards is the second feature Facebook has copied from micro blogging service Twitter, previously they also copied the @username mention feature. Would be interesting to see what other features Facebook plans to copy from Twitter just to stay ahead in the game now that there are rumors of Google planning a Facebook competitor.

International SMS Alert WordPress Plugin

Okay let me start by saying if you are looking for sending free SMS messages you are looking at the wrong place. This plugin came to life due to an email I received from a friend over at WebAddiCT(s);, Rafiq Phillips.

The plugin allows users to subscribe their cellphone number via a widget (check my sidebar) and then allows the blog owner to send SMS messages to the subscribed numbers when he/she sees fit.

The plugin is called International SMS Subscription Manager and as the name says this WordPress plugin will allow you to send SMS message to over 819 cellphone networks in 221 countries and territories.

International SMS Subscription Manager for WordPress currently allows users to subscribe and unsubscribe their cellphone numbers in international format (eg. 27730000000). Once the user has subscribed, the blog owner can send SMS messages to the subscribed numbers through the WordPress dashboard.

International SMS Subscription Manager makes use of a widget, making it easy for non tech savvy blog owners to easily get it up and running on their blog.

Future features will include the ability to send SMS updates each time a new post has been made, and also an Ajaxified widget.

You can download your copy of International SMS Subscription Manager here until I get it onto the WordPress Plugin directory, this is the first release so please report bugs as you find them in the comments.
