Legion Review

Legion Movie ReviewDirector: Scott Stewart Screenplay: Peter Schink, Scott Stewart Cast: Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Dennis Quaid, Adrianne Palicki Time: 100min Age Restriction: 16LV

Genre:
Horror

Summary Review:
Legion is a lame horror film about the archangel Michael fighting off the possessed zombies of Armageddon.

Synopsis:
God has given up on the human race and has decided to kill off mankind by turning them into cannibalistic, vampire-like zombies.

But the archangel Michael believes God is mistaken and that there is still hope for humans, so he rebels and tries to help the last remaining people, who are hiding out in a diner in the middle of the desert.

Legion is based on an interesting concept, but the movie is cheesy and predictable. As a horror film, however, Legion does manage to serve up quite a few shocks.

The theology is biblically inaccurate and Legion may be offensive to Christian viewers, with its erroneous referrals to God’s character.

Cape Town’s Giant Vuvuzela

For those those of you that hasn’t seen it already, or are not near Cape Town, here is a picture of the giant Vuvuzela constructed on the abandoned bridge.

Apparently the Vuvuzela will be blown every time a goal is scored in the Fifa World Cup tournament, if this is true I do not know. There is also a story floating around that it will replace the noon gun for the period of the World Cup. If you know the true story give us a shout in the comments.

Google mobile search now includes app results

Mobile and apps are today what the dot-com bubble was back in the late 90′s, and it comes to no surprise that Google knows this and that’s why they are now introducing apps in its search results.

Normally when you are looking for a certain app to do something you would like, you set out to Google it and then read up on it. Great news is that Google now makes it even easier to get your hands on the actual app.

From now on if you visit Google.com from you Android powered device or iPhone and search for an app, Google will now provide you with special links and content at the top of the search results. These links will enable you to go directly to the Android Market or iPhone App Store to download the app.

Some of the application’s basic details will also be listed on the results page like its rating, price and who published it.

Google App Search from Android or iPhone

Unfortunately us in South Africa will have to wait a bit longer for this feature as it is currently only available for US users, I believe it’s got something to do with the fact that we can’t get paid apps in the Android Market, not sure about IPhone App Store. Hopefully we will see this soon as I see this as a real handy feature.

Add a bit of SEO magic to your WordPress URLs

SEO? Whats that? That’s the response I normally get when I try to give bloggers a bit of pointers on making their blogs more Search Engine friendly.

The past weekend I gave a presentation to a few bloggers about ways of making money from you blog and one thing that I realised while interacting with them was that their blogs was still using the default WordPress URL structure.

Now there is nothing wrong with this, it works! But when it comes to search engines indexing your blog post, adding a few keywords to your URL can help improve your search engine results page rank.

By default WordPress uses the URL structure www.igeek.co.za/?p=5 now wouldn’t it be nicer if you could have a URL that describes your post? Luckily WordPress allows its users to enable these permalinks very easily.

Enabling Permalink in WordPress

  1. Log into your WordPress control panel ( http://yourdomain.co.za/wp-admin/ )
  2. Under Settings click on Permalinks
  3. Choose your structure, the default structure most blogs us is Day and name, but SEO professionals suggest for better results to use a combination of category and post name. To do this choose Custom Structure and type in the following /%category%/%postname%/
  4. Click Save changes and you are good to go

Now you are one step closer to ranking better in search engines.

iPad gets competition from Netbook makers

It’s been two months since the release of the Apple iPad and Apple already sold 2 million units, but will Apple’s domination of the tablet market come to an end soon?

Netbook makers MSI and Asus seem to think so and are eager to take back their market by introducing an onslaught of tablet PC’s. One of these tablets introduced by MSI will runs on Android.

Asus EEE Pad

Asus unveiled two tablets and an E-Book reader. The EEE Pad Ep121 is a 12-inch tablet powered by a Intel Core2Duo processor and Windows 7, it will also boast a on-screen keyboard like the iPad but will also support external keyboards and will have an expected battery life of 10 hours for continuous use. Asus also unveiled the smaller EEE Pad EP101TC which features a 10-inch screen and that will run Windows CE as apposed to Windows 7. Not all specs have been revealed yet.

MSI WindPad

MSI is also getting in on the tablet action by introducing two new tables. The first being the WindPad 100, a 10-inch tablet that runs on Windows 7 and powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor. The WindPad 100 will have 2GB of ram and 32GB of SSD storage, USB and HDMI ports are also expected and a webcam. MSI also introduced the WindPad 110, an Android 2.1 powered tablet. The WindPad 110 also features a 10-inch capacitive touch screen and will be powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and will have USB and video out capabilities.

One thing that is for sure is that Netbook makes are not stepping down to let Apple take over the market previously belonging to them, and from what I can see it looks like the tablet market is heating up big time.
