The Parrot AR.Drone is a helicopter that connects to your iPhone via WiFi and enables you to control the helicopter via the iPhone display. The iPhone display is your controller.
It has built-in cameras and ultrasound sensors that lets you take full control of the helicopter. I doubt that the iPhone will be the only device capable of controlling the helicopter in the future as it only uses WiFi, I think we will see an Android App for this soon, and even a PC App.

Where can you buy the Parrot AR.Drone helicopter in SA/ cape town specifically if available?

I do not have an iPod/iPad/iPhone yet and had to make it work on my PC. Now it can run via a wireless network router with a nice big omni mounted outside. Also using a wireless flight stick hooked up to my PC in the house. See http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150240661729363.372380.732384362
Wow Jurie, that is truely awesome man
did u have to develop an application that would give u the video streams and that would recognize ur controller?
Hi SCVII, you download the iphone/ipad application.
Hi Gerhard
Wanna control it from a PC.Does the iPhone app work on a PC?
There are a couple of open source projects around. Search for ar.drone control windows. Most are complete projects with source code and some compiled debug binaries that you can use right away.
About any controller that windows picks up as a hmi controller / joystick with axis control functions appears to work. I connected my Parry to a wireless router, fixed ip on my PC and controlling him with a wireless keyboard or my wireless joystick. Since both give good wireless range, it was possible to fly while being outside with my PC still in the house.
